Abstract

This article deals with a study of leadership in higher education institutions, focusing on a case study carried out at the Kimpa Vita University (Unikivi), located in the northern region of Angola, in the province of Uíge. After analysis, it was identified that employees have expressed various criticisms in relation to the management of the institutions, highlighting flaws in the way they are conducted. The main shortcomings identified include: failure to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, lack of transparency in communication, lack of commitment to the institution and non-compliance with established rules and regulations. Given this scenario, the issue of leadership emerged as a crucial topic to be explored. Managers are expected to be able to develop and implement policies aimed at achieving the development objectives of public institutions, promoting a favorable internal environment. To this end, it is essential that leaders establish an effective leadership model, encouraging employee participation and promoting significant organizational changes. Despite the existing challenges, leaders must assume their role responsibly and adopt a participatory management model to stimulate new behaviors and promote improvements in institutions.
